Victor Hugo Bahamondes was born on April 11, 1949, in Máfil, Chile, and passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at St. Jude’s Anglican Home in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the age of 76.
Victor grew up in southern Chile, lovingly raised by his aunts Elba, Hilda, and Teresa, and his uncle Cheche. Their care and guidance shaped his resilience, his kindness, and his lifelong devotion to family.
A committed scholar, Victor earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering and went on to teach physics and mathematics in Chile. His work as a professor reflected his passion for learning and his belief in empowering others through education.
In December 1975, Victor immigrated to Vancouver, BC, with his wife and their first daughter, beginning a courageous new chapter. With limited English and a degree not recognized in Canada, he took on a series of odd jobs before securing a production position at Western Packaging. Through determination and an unwavering work ethic, he rose to become Production Manager at Fireplace Products International, then Plant Manager at Archgard Fireplaces and later Starline Windows, eventually fulfilling a dream by owning Viba Signs—a professional milestone he deeply valued. He proudly became a Canadian citizen in 1980.
Victor believed wholeheartedly in the importance of travel and the perspective it offered. He made sure his daughters experienced the world beyond their neighborhood, gifting Loreto and Paola a summer together in Tenerife in the Canary Islands, and sending each of them on individual trips to Chile to connect with their extended family, culture, and language. These journeys became cherished, formative memories.
Some of the family’s happiest moments came from their many road trips—whether driving long distances for Victor’s soccer games across the border and throughout BC, or embarking on one of their most unforgettable adventures: a trip to Disneyland and the San Diego Zoo. Victor loved being behind the wheel, and these drives were filled with laughter, snacks, music, and the simple joy of being together.
Soccer was a lifelong passion. Victor played from childhood, taught both his daughters the game, joined a masters’ team in his 40s, and proudly coached his youngest daughter’s team. The sport was a constant in his life—a source of connection, competition, and pure enjoyment.
Victor was known for his youthful spirit, playful humour, and warm, often-silly charm that made him a joy to be around. He had a famous sweet tooth—especially for cookies—and he loved treating his children and their families to dinners around Vancouver. Above all, he was endlessly proud of his daughters and treasured every visit with them and his grandchildren.
For the past 12 years, Victor faced Alzheimer’s disease with quiet courage. During this time, he lived at St. Jude’s Anglican Home, where he received compassionate care. His ex-wife, Jeorgina, remained a steady and devoted presence, visiting regularly and offering comfort, companionship, and familiarity throughout his journey.
Victor is survived by his daughters, Loreto and Paola; their husbands, Conn and Nicolas; and his three treasured grandchildren—Angelina, Brendan, and Scarlett—each of whom held a special place in his heart and brought him immense joy.
Victor leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, warmth, humour, adventure, and unwavering devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
