In Loving Memory
From her grandson, Samuel:
Grandma had a way of finding humor in almost anything, and it made even the hard days easier. She kept Oppa's memory close, and she was my main connection to him. She always encouraged me to be adventurous and try new things, even when that wasn't her own instinct. I'll never forget our movie nights and all the time we spent together — especially when I was younger and had a hard time making friends. She always listened to what I had to say, in a way not many adults did.
From her granddaughter, Emma:
Grandma wasn't always easy, but she shaped me in ways I'll always be grateful for. No matter what, she believed in me fully — she just knew I could do anything I set my mind to, and that kind of belief stays with you. She taught me toughness and lessons I still carry with me today, in business and in life. I hope I can carry her strength forward, the way she always believed I would.
For Grandma:
Wild Geese by Mary Oliver
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
Individual celebrations of life will be held in Victoria, BC; Brandon, MB; Calgary,AB; and Daytona Beach, FL.
