It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Steve Burges, who passed peacefully on June 19, 2026 at the age of 79, after a short battle with cancer.
Steve grew up in North Vancouver, where he spent his childhood and much of his early adult life. He often recounted both his adventures travelling Europe with his first wife Val and his time working in Sudan.
In 1990 he met Jane and they settled in Port Coquitlam. In 2011 they moved to Maple Ridge.
A dedicated tradesman, Steve was a proud member of the UA Local 170 Pipefitters Union and worked actively in the trade until his retirement in 2003.
Following his retirement he and Jane travelled, enjoying many adventures. In 2006 they discovered Yuma AZ and for 18 years enjoyed the snowbird lifestyle. Steve formed many close friendships that quickly became a second family to them both. He cherished these connections deeply. At home, he found happiness in simple pleasures—reading, playing games with family and friends, watching his favourite sports, and taking walks along local rivers and forest trails.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jane; his daughter, Danielle; his stepchildren, Russ (Leah) and Kristy (Dave); and his beloved grandchildren, Callum, Lila, Scarlett, AJ, and Audrey. He is also survived by his brother, Peter. He was predeceased by his mother, Elma, and his father, Frank.
Steve will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
An open house will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 to gather and share memories of Steve with friends and family.
Please drop by between 2:00pm and 4:00pm to the Albion Community Centre located at 24165 104th Avenue, Maple Ridge. There will be no formal ceremony.

Steve wasn’t just someone we knew—he was one of those rare friends who made ordinary evenings feel unforgettable.
We spent countless hours gathered around the Fast-Track board, convinced that the next game would finally settle who was the better players. It never really did. The games were filled with laughter, good-natured teasing, and just enough friendly competition to keep us coming back for “just one more round.”
There were always cocktails, bags of Hawkins Cheezies—the Canadian version of Cheetos—and stories that somehow became taller and funnier every time they were told.
What Jan & I will remember most isn’t who won the games or even the stories we told. It’s the feeling of those evenings together—the laughter that echoed around the table, the friendships that grew stronger with every visit, and Steve & Jane’s warm smiles that made every gathering a little brighter.
We’ll think of Steve whenever the Fast-Track board comes out, the cocktails are poured, and a bag of Hawkins Cheezies is opened. We’ll smile, tell another tall tale, and know that a part of Steve will always be with us.
To us, Steve will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.

He will be missed tremendously.
All who knew him loved him! So many fun memories! So many laughs!

We were so lucky to have Steve’s friendship (and Jane’s of course). So many great times at their home in Maple Ridge and when we had our 5th wheel on their property in Yuma. Always looked forward to their visits in San Felipe. Lots of game nights with a lot of laughs. If we ever ran into a problem they were always there to help us out.
He will be missed. I’m so sorry Jane, he was such a good man. See you on the other side Steve, xox

Jim and I will sincerely miss Steve. He was a dear friend and neighbor. We met Steve and Jane when we moved in behind them in Yuma. We enjoyed their friendship so much, the four of us agreed to have a gate put in our back fence. Made bringing appetizers and drinks back and forth much easier.
Steve was always smiling and a friend you could count on. We will miss him so much.mL

Our Poppa
Steve will be dearly missed. He was the Poppa that was always willing to lend a hand, he could fix anything, happy to make anyone a delicious cocktail, and always willing to play a game. We love you Poppa, thank you for being a great bonus dad and grandma. Love you Kristy, Dave, AJ & Audrey
