Shelley Hettle passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner, surrounded by her loving family. Born Nov. 5, 1957, in Port Alberni, she was 67 years old.
Shelley was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Laurie Hettle, and her infant sister, Robin. She’s survived by her sisters Janice (George) and Tracy, brother Alan (Beth), nieces Laura (Christopher) and Krista (Marc), nephews Scott (Stephanie), Andrew (Brandi), David (Emma), and Daniel (Emily), great-niece Sibella and great-nephews Stellan, Leo, Sawyer, and Milo.
Raised in Powell River, Shelley built a career in the pulp and paper industry in Vancouver, where her dedication and expertise were widely respected. Family was at the centre of her life, and she cherished the time spent with loved ones, especially around the card table and on the beach in Hawaii.
Shelley was an avid reader who found joy in books and learning throughout her life. She admired the British royal family and followed their activities with great interest, waking up in the early hours to watch royal weddings.
There will be no funeral service at her request.

What a great picture of Shelley, I can hear her laugh when I look at it. I will always remember Shelley's stories and I appreciated that she was interested in all my family and remembered everyone's names when we talked. She will hold a special place in my Pangea work memories.

Shelley and I started out at MacMillan Bloedel in different departments, but soon our paths would cross. As the company structure changed over the years, we still had links within our responsibilities. Our friendship continued after our retirements and we would occasionally meet over lunch. We would share memories and family stories; especially when our mothers were still with us.
I miss our chats.

Myself and many others at Pangea Logistics worked with Shelley for years. She was a great resource for us and a good friend. She is missed.
