Beloved mother, sister, Auntie and friend Rose Richardson’s long journey came to a peaceful end in the early evening of June 16, 2025 with her children by her bedside.

She and her identical twin sister Eva were born on the family farm in Prince George, the daughters of pioneer residents Joseph & Eva Russman. She and her siblings learned the value of hard work at an early age, having tasks on the farm as soon as they were old enough to cope. Rose was eight years-old before the family had their first car; until that time transportation was by horse & wagon. She grew up riding horses, skiing and skating, and with her sister Eva, had the responsibility of arriving to their one-room schoolhouse first in order to stoke the furnace with coal.

As Rose neared her twenties she began playing baseball, worked for both the Royal Bank & the post office, and in 1957 set off on her first international adventure. She crossed Canada by train, boarded a ship the took her across the Atlantic to England, and in the company of a girlfriend travelled around Europe. While in Germany she tried to see Elvis Presley during his service there, a lofty goal that unfortunately was not successful.

In the early 1960s she met Robert “Bob” Richardson, whom she would marry in Prince George in 1962. They welcomed their daughter Teri the following year. Not long after Bob’s work with Firestone would bring them to the Lower Mainland – first to Vancouver (where they welcomed their son Robert), followed by Richmond and Courtenay on Vancouver Island before moving to Haney in 1970 so that Bob could open up OK Tire Brake & Wheel. They would call Maple Ridge home forever on.

Rose helped out with bookkeeping at the store, joined a women’s bowling team in the 1970s, and frequently volunteered with activities at her children’s elementary school. She enjoyed growing vegetables & competing in an annual tomato-growing competition with her neighbours. Every Christmas she would bake up a tremendous array of treats for her family & friends, and loved cheering on both the Vancouver Canucks & BC Lions.

Over the years she would enjoy vacations around British Columbia, Alberta, and to Hawaii, California, and Arizona. While she never was able to see Elvis in person she did attend the visit of the Pope to BC in 1984, and saw Prince Charles & Princess Diana open Expo ‘86. As the 21st century arrived she returned to Europe for another adventure, along with her eldest niece. She would also enjoy cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska.

Long term illness and health issues presented many challenges for Mom during the last decade of her life, but she always had a smile for whomever she met, and was always happy to chat with people. She was of a gentle nature, and despite her health obstacles would tell her loved ones that she had lived a good life. Rose is predeceased by her parents, six of her siblings, and her husband Bob. She is survived by her daughter Teri, her son Robert, her twin sister Eva, and a number of beloved nieces & nephews.

In accordance with her wishes there will be no formal ceremony. Her family thanks everyone for their condolences, and for helping to create so many rich memories throughout her life’s journey.
