Ronald Mahlon Briscoe passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2026, at the age of 88. Ron was born on August 21, 1937, in Sudbury, Ontario, to Helen and Mahlon (Scoop) Briscoe.
Ron is survived by Monika; his loving wife of 62 years. His daughter, Jennifer O’Neill (Mike); and his beloved granddaughters, Makenna Rice-O’Neill (Joshua) and Kaitlyn. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, John and Roger, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He grew up as the only boy among four sisters: Elaine, Sally, Carolyn, and Jane - an early sign that he was destined to spend his life surrounded by women, something he would later joke about.
In his younger years, Ron loved playing hockey, and his adventurous spirit followed him throughout life. Over the years, Ron developed a wide range of passions, including playing guitar and singing, skiing, racing cars, and golfing with friends. Some of his happiest memories were made at the hunt camp in Meldrum Bay on Manitoulin Island, where some serious hunting and “sipping” went on.
Ron taught at Sudbury Business College with his father, and it was here that he met the love of his life, Monika. Ron and Monika married in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1964.
His career with General Foods took the couple west - first to Edmonton, Alberta, and then in 1975 to Coquitlam, British Columbia. In BC, Ron made the most of life on the west coast, enjoying ski trips to Whistler with friends Carol & Gene, and Lorraine & Henry; and he loved fishing with his best friend Terry at Crazy Man Rock. He also embraced his love of cars by racing at Westwood and proudly restoring his Porsche 911.
In 2005, Ron moved to Maple Ridge to be closer to his daughter and granddaughters, who were the center of his world. Known for his wonderful sense of humour, he loved sharing laughs - especially with Makenna and Kaitlyn, whom he often claimed were the funniest people he knew.
Being a father and later a grandfather brought Ron his greatest joy. He treasured every moment spent with his family, always ready with a joke, a story, a song, a smile, and a twinkle in his eye.
Ron will be remembered for his wit, his adventurous spirit, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His laughter and stories will be missed but never forgotten.

My thoughts, light and positive energy are with Monika, Jennifer and her beautiful daughters today. I remember my Uncle Ron as the coolest, funniest, energetic guy! I remember him taking me for a ride in his Lotus sports car, and I was beyond thrilled and proud! The thing I remember the most is that he didn't "talk down to me"; I felt heard. I adored Monika, and truly looked forward to any visits we had. They moved out west when I was about 14, I think, and I remember crying my eyes out!! I remember family Christmases in the early 1960's at our house... My parents, all the aunties and uncles and so many cousins to play with! Absolute chaos, feasting and laughing... all my uncles were pretty funny, and loud. Yes. They were all loud!! They teased and played with us, the aunties (my mom's sisters) did the whole gossip thing in the kitchen, getting the Christmas dinner ready for what seemed like a hundred people! These are memories that I cherish. I can't help but feel, that, with Uncle Ron's passing, it is the end of an era... Rest in Peace, Uncle Ron, thanks for the fun, the time spent listening, the music and laughter. I imagine that there are a few people just waiting for you ... Your sisters in particular, your mom and dad... and all my uncles, and of course my dad...Uncle Mac has the banjo warmed up, and there will be some kind of great party going on up there tonight! Fly free, Uncle Ron. May you be happy and healthy and whole. and may your soul be with God...
Love from your niece Karen (your sister Sally's daughter) xo
