Roberta Anne “Bobbi” Read
With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Roberta Anne Read, a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, auntie, and friend. Known affectionately as Bobbi, she was a woman of fierce resilience and even fiercer love.
Bobbi entered the world on May 14, 1943, arriving mere moments before her lifelong best friend, travel partner, and comedic sidekick: her twin brother, Ernest Stephen Read. Whether they were sharing a home, a card table, or a "partnership in crime," the bond between "The Twins" will transcend more than a single lifetime. Together, they shared a love for warm destinations, most notably their 75th birthday celebration in Mexico, a cherished vacation shared with a family of twelve. It was Mom’s dream come true and the greatest birthday gift from her brother.
A true, tenacious Taurus and a dedicated matriarch, Bobbi was a two-time cancer survivor, having successfully battled the disease in 1983 and 2009. When faced with a new diagnosis in December 2025, she accepted the news with characteristic deference; her only wish was to be home with her family for the holidays. That wish was honored, and Family Day weekend surrounded her with all the loved ones who were her world. Bobbi peacefully escaped her pain just after sunrise on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
Bobbi’s home was a sanctuary of warmth and welcome. Her heart was always full when her dining table was overflowing with guests. She is predeceased by her sister Joyce, and leaves behind a legacy of love in her twin brother, Stephen Read; her daughter, Erin O’Reilly; her son, Brett O’Reilly and his wife Laura; and her cherished grandchildren, Cedric, Lily, and Anya. She is also survived by stepsons Michael and William Chorm, nieces Dana Johnson and Lisa Ethridge, and informally adopted family members Tamara and Kevin.
Bobbi’s final wishes were that no Celebration of Life or other events be held for her; her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation(click on the link)
Bobbi leaves us with a lifetime of laughter, a special brand of teasing humor, and a final piece of classic advice for those she left behind: “Stop crying, or I’ll give you something to cry about!”
