It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Robert Gordon (Gord) Freeman. Gord passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on February 17, 2025.

He is predeceased by his mother Carol Freeman. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Veronica, his children Steven (Kaitlyn) and Michaela, his "second son" Sharmaine Ventura, his 96-year-old father Jack Freeman, his brother and sister Doug (Richard) and Lynn (Grant) Freeman, and his half-sister and brother Sophie (Alberto) and Dennis Charalambedis.

Gord was born in Vancouver in 1962. His family moved to Penticton where Gord enjoyed a childhood filled with outdoor adventures with family. Gord met Veronica in 1984 and the two were virtually attached to the hip from then on, eventually marrying in 1986. Gord's passion for sports and healthy activity led him to study Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University and then Respiratory Therapy at Cariboo College (now Thompson Rivers University) where he graduated at the top of his class. He and Veronica returned to the Lower Mainland for Gord's internship. Gord traveled across the world to be with Veronica, and they eventually settled permanently in the Lower Mainland to raise their family.

The Freeman home in Maple Ridge was made warm by the love Gord had for his family. He cooked for Michaela's friends when they came over. He coached Steven's soccer, hockey and ball hockey teams. Gord held great pride in his work as a respiratory therapist and the many roles he held in the informatics department at Fraser Health for many years. In his final role of managing an informatics team, he deeply appreciated and cared for his team. This deep love and appreciation was extended to all aspects of his life.

Gord exuded generosity and led with an open heart. He was a diligent and devoted gardener, cultivating a beautiful and bountiful harvest of vegetables and herbs. He bought a pickup truck so he could haul all the various plants to his home for planting. He was known in the neighbourhood for his bean trees. Season after season, he shared the abundance of this harvest with neighbours and friends, and like any decent gardener knows, the mark of a successful season is not the growth of the plant but the share of the harvest.

He will be acutely missed by his loving family and friends, and all who experienced his warmth and caring.

We will look for you in the sunrise.

If you would like to honour Gord's name with a donation, please contact the Mission Hospice Society for a donation in his name.

We will always remember Gord for his calm and kind demeanour. He was helpful and understanding. We enjoyed our visits and conversations with him. We share fun memories. Gord and Veronica will always be our first married friends, and we will always remember the kindness they gave us. Gord was a great man.

It’s been a couple decades since RCH respiratory parties were our outlet of fun. Gord was always a mostly sober ‘go to’ for conversations filled with kindness… Despite the distance, called time, I feel like Gord’s quiet presence was a simple grace called humanity that I will always remember.
