With great sadness, the family of Reginald Martin Patton (in his 86th year) announce his passing peacefully with his family at his bedside on Mon., Dec. 22, 2025. Left to mourn: his wife of 50 years Suzanne, sons Michael (Ashley), Kevin, and Robert (Andrea); grandchildren Brody (Sarah), Kyla, Alex, Charlotte, and Carter; great-granddaughter Maple; brother-in-law Bill; close friends, neighbours, former Canada Post coworkers, and fellow entertainers at Variety Plus.
Reginald Patton lived a very unique life, one that could almost be made into a movie. He was born on March 8th, 1940, to Edward Charles Patton and Louise Patton, in London, England. Unfortunately, his family was killed during the war, and Reg was placed into an orphanage at the young age of 4. During his childhood, he bounced between foster families and the orphanage until he finished school at 14 years old, with a grade 12 education. It was during his childhood that Reginald learned many different skills and traits from staying with different families. He also developed a strong love for animals and wanted to pursue a career as a veterinarian, but financial restraints prevented him from doing so. Instead, he went to Farm College to learn how to work on a farm. After 6 months, he left school to return to London. Life was challenging for Reg, as for many others. Despite working several jobs, many nights he would have to find shelter in buses or empty railway carriages. During the next few years, Reg would drift around Europe with stops in France and Germany.
At the age of 18, Reg returned to England, only to find that he was placed in the army. Reluctant to join, Reg decided to enlist in the Air Force where he proudly served for the next 5 years. It was during his time in the Royal Air Force that Reg developed a disease in the ear and was transferred to the cooking department. Ultimately, as his hearing continued to diminish, he was eventually released from the Royal Air Force. Upon his dismissal, Reg returned to the London area where he would drive tour buses and double-decker buses. He made several connections with people, which allowed him to further tour Europe.
Reg decided to move to Canada in 1970, after earlier visiting some friends in Canada. He farmed in the Chilliwack area for a while before settling down in Vancouver BC, where he worked as a manager for a local English Pub. It was there that he met the love of his life, Suzanne. They would marry in 1976 and shortly afterwards moved to Ontario, just prior to the birth of their first son. Reg would work several different jobs until he became a Postal employee. Soon after, came the arrival of his other 2 sons (1981) and (1982).
In 1987, Reg and his family moved to BC, where they settled in Maple Ridge, and Reg raised his family. Reg continued to work as a Postal employee until his retirement in August of 2008. During his retirement, Reg volunteered his time organizing and performing with the Variety Plus at the Maple Ridge Senior Center. He was also very active when it came to his family. When his boys were younger, he coached them in soccer. Weekends were filled with trips to his boys’ hockey games. For a brief period, they raised chickens and Reg would teach them about his love for animals. He also shared his passion for cooking with them. Family road trips to Osoyoos were always an adventure. In 2000, Reg became a grandfather for the first time with the birth of his youngest son’s son. From 2007 to 2011, Reg’s family grew even more with the arrival of 4 more grandkids. In 2025, Reg became a great-grandfather to a beautiful baby girl. For a man that had grown up without a family, he found peace and happiness with a family of his own.
Reg will be “Always in our thoughts and Forever in our hearts”. No Service by request, but a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 7th from 1pm until 4pm, at the Saint George Church; 23500 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge.
Donations can be made in his memory, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (BC Chapter).
To help keep his spirit alive, please share any stories, jokes or adventures you may have had with Reg below. A memorial book will be on hand for guests to sign;” to celebrate the love of friends and family and commemorate a life well lived”. Please share your memories or express your sympathy on the pages within.

Reg was a coworker, always happy and pleasant. I only have good memories of him. He used to sell hanging baskets for a fundraiser every year and I was always happy to buy some from him. I met Sue through Reg . My condolences to Sue and the family!

When Reg transferred to the Maple Ridge post office Norman and I started a new friendship with Reg and Sue both at work and outside of work. We spent our weekends going to the Maple Ridge legion. Participated in the fundraisers that were held there. Also watching the live entertainment and dancing. We even convinced Reg and Sue to take some dance classes with us at the act. We went to the Langley casino for their Brunch and went to see their live entertainment. We saw Little Anthony and the Imperial’s the Zombies Dr.Hook and Chilliwack. On the weekends we would go to the Abbotsford flea market and then go to Wendy’s afterwards. I remember we all went to a golf tournament that the Maple Ridge Post Office put on. Reg and Sue were so excited because it was the morning that their first grandson Brody was born. We went on to play golf but we sucked at it. We came in last placed and had a lot of fun. We had a lot to celebrate st the golf course club house. All in all we had a great friendship, great times and a lot of laughs. Reg was a kind man ,a gentleman and was ready to help you if you needed help. He had an infectious laugh and was a lot of fun to be with. We will miss him wholeheartedly. Our condolences to Sue and her family. Thanks for the memories Reg. Rest in peace. You are in good hands in heaven.

I was sorry to hear of Reg’s recent passing. I have known Reg since the 70’s when he first met my high school friend Suzanne and I was honoured to be a bridesmaid at their wedding. We have stayed connected since they moved back to BC and have enjoyed following the growth and adventures of their family. We extend our condolences to Suzanne and all of Reg’s family at this very sad time.
