Murphy, Margaret Anne (Meg)
Feb 10, 1935-Aug 18, 2021
Born in Vancouver, BC, passed away in Surrey, BC
Known to most people as Meg for the last 60 years, Mom started life as Margie Rawson. Moving frequently in her early years, as far west as Barrie, Ont, and as far north as Prince Rupert, she attended 16 different schools. So, when she met the love of her life, Pat, at a YMCA dance in Vancouver in 1954, they married, settled down, moving only twice in 40 years.
Raising their children Dina (Gary) Nicklason, Laura (Doug) Draper, and Mike (Margo) in Burnaby, they moved to their dream home in Surrey upon retirement. There they enjoyed having the grandchildren to visit- Mark, Sarah, Amanda, Veronique, Stephanie, Hannah, Jordan and Raymond- all sleeping on mattresses on the floor like sardines!
Mom was pre-deceased by her husband, Patrick, parents Roy and Esther (Colter) Rawson, sister Irene Chadwick, and infant grandson Joel.
She is also survived by a special granddaughter Jenna, and 8 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Eva, brother-in-law Don, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mom had a long and full life, enjoying camping weekends and summers at Cultus Lake, bowling with great friends, and especially playing cards with anyone willing to take her on- she usually won! In later years she and Dad did a bit of traveling, to Hawaii, Reno and a cruise to Alaska. On Dad’s passing, she continued to enjoy cruising, especially in Europe. And she even drove with her cousin, Janet, from BC to Cape Breton to visit her daughter. When she finally slowed down, she loved to do crafts with the ladies at Sunrise Pavilion, and to sit and read. And play cards!
The last months of mom’s life were spent at Laurel Place Hospice in Surrey, where the staff took very good care of her. They have our heartfelt thanks for their care and compassion.
A drop-in Remembrance of Meg is scheduled for September 25, 2021 at her condo in Surrey.
