Manfred Willi Juert
November 9, 1936 - November 17, 2024
Manfred was an adventurous spirit. He was a natural athlete that was always engaged in a sport that he was passionate about. In his youth he was a competitive gymnast and avid motorcyclist. At age 22 he moved from Germany to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he continued competing in gymnastics, and was an avid water skier. In the 1960’s he moved to the lower mainland and embraced life racing motorcycles. His family spent many weekends at Westwood race track. By the 1970’s his passion shifted to sailing. He did well racing his sailboat and was Skipper of the Year in 1974 and 1975. His last sailboat was a 30 foot Cal that he named Eroica (Beethoven’s 3rd symphony). He sailed Eroica to Hawaii and back by himself. He sailed Eroica often, right up until he was 80 years old. For many years after that Manfred could be seen riding his Honda 750 motorcycle around Vancouver and kayaking in False Creek. If anything could be learned from Manfred was how to avoid stress and focus on having fun in life. Alzheimer’s got the better of him. He spent the last 9 months of his life being well cared for at the German Canadian Care Home. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Evelyn, his son Gordon (Bernadette) and his grandchildren Christina (Jonathan) and Erica.
