With sad hearts we announce the passing of Lorna Ansley (nee Nicklen) of Tsawwassen, BC, at the age of 81. In the wee hours of May 6th, 2023, she slipped away swiftly and peacefully following a brief battle with cancer. Her daughter, Susan, was with her in the end. Many thanks to the wonderful people who cared for her at Delta Hospital and Irene Thomas hospice.
Lorna is survived by her daughter, Susan (Tim) and grandson, Dexter, as well as 6 of 9 siblings: Eileen, Deanna, Shirley (Gary), Joanne (John), Valerie, and Harley (Karen), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lorna was creative and artistic and enjoyed exploring new hobbies, such as drawing, painting, sewing, knitting, baking and more. She was a very caring person, and, despite her own personal challenges, she frequently helped others as she was able. Her kindness was appreciated by many in her community and her family.
Lorna was also determined and tenacious. These qualities carried her through single parenting in the 1970’s, some years of precarious employment and a previous encounter with cancer. She lived on her own terms until her recent hospitalization.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and enjoyed spending time with family. Though she often had an earnest demeanour, we fondly remember how Lorna could surprise you with her sharp sense of humour (even in her last days). We will find comfort in those memories as we grieve.
A memorial gathering with family will be held at a future date. Please consider making a donation to www.bccancerfoundation.com .
