It is with heavy hearts we announce that Lisa Verona Slauenwhite (nee Jones) passed away on August 12, 2024 at Vancouver General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 61.
Lisa is survived by her husband Eric, sons Cameron and Christopher, and daughter Elysa. She is also survived by her mother Verona Jones, sister Shelley, brothers Todd (Donna) and Mark (Stephanie), and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Robert Jones and her sister Angela Hartt.
Lisa was an avid traveler, spending much of her childhood relocating around Nova Scotia for her father’s work she learned to always be moving and finding new adventures. From this she went on to Nepal where she walked on Mount Everest, Australia where she scuba dived in the Great Barrier Reef, and many other places while enjoying new foods and cultures from around the world. In addition to travel, Lisa was heavily involved with volunteer work. Whether it be with Dietitian’s of Canada, Canadian Association of Food Service Professionals, or working on the executive boards of volunteer organizations in her local areas she was always willing to lend a hand where needed. One of Lisa’s greatest passions was crafting. She could always be found knitting, crocheting, quilting, or scrapbooking. She loved making gifts for friends and family and adding personalized details to show she cared. She also loved baking, gardening, and spending time with her family and pets. Lisa made friends wherever she went, her glass was always half full and she had a smile on her face. She was and still is well loved and lived a life filled with kindness. She will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on August 31st, 2024 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at St James Community Square, located at 3214 W 10th Ave, Vancouver. A second celebration will occur in Nova Scotia on September 28th, 2024 from 1:00pm to 4:00pmat St John the Evangelist Anglican Church Hall, located at 954 Old Sackville Rd, Middle Sackville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Bladder Cancer Canada.

Dear Eric and family. I am so sad to hear of Lisa’s passing. I know we drifted apart over the years but I have fond memories of Lisa. Your home was the epicentre for gatherings during internship and beyond. All of us strays were welcomed with a smile and the best hospitality. We had many good laughs and good times. Lisa taught me to cross stitch and I in turn taught my daughter. Lisa lived life to the fullest and was an inspiration to all. I am thinking of you during this difficult time. Love Lori

Dear Eric and Family
I’m so sorry for your loss, Lisa was a wonderful person. I had the pleasure of meeting Lisa at a conference and then a few years later working with Lisa at a long term care facility in Nova Scotia. She was a mentor to many students during the time we worked together and her love of continuous education was passed on to many people. I’m so saddened by this news and know how she truly will be missed by all.

Thinking of you Eric and family. I had the pleasure of meeting Lisa around 1989 after we all finished internship. We did some dinner parties and adventures together with a group of the VGH new RDs. Sometime soon after I recall staying with you and the family in Calgary when i attended a conference, that was my first time there, I remember being grateful to stay with you and your kids. Lisa has always been an amazing dietitian and person. I was glad to reconnect on the Dysphagia network with her again. Take Care, Louise

Dear Eric and family, my sincerest condolences on your loss. I'm shocked and very sad to hear of her passing.
I knew Lisa both as a fellow dietitian and, more so, through her work with the Canadian Association of Foodservices Professionals (CAFP). With her can-do attitude and organizational skills, she was the ideal volunteer who helped change the F in CAFP from Foodservices to Fun . Lisa was a wonderful woman who could light up a room. We will miss Lisa's spunk and sparkle.

So sorry to hear of Lisa's passing. She was such a wonderful person that I had the privilege of getting to know through CAFP. She told me of her passion for diving and taking on students from out of country. I often saw Lisa at events volunteering. Lisa will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family.

Sincere condolences to Lisa's family and friends. I had the pleasure of knowing Lisa through our dietetic work and we became work buddies. Lisa was a wealth of information and support through the Dysphagia Network and her visits to the facility where I work. Her "quick visits" usually lasted an hour as we talked dietetics and life in general. I will remember her kind words, her laugh and her love of caring for others, especially the elderly. I am going to miss Lisa very much and am so thankful for having known her.

It was a lovely tribute to a special lady. A true shock and one very difficult to accept when word came of her passing. Lisa always had such determination and dedication and was a one-of-a-kind, always there to help. It was a privilege and a pleasure to have known and worked with Lisa especially with the Food Service Association. She left a lasting impression even going back to the early 70"s when she worked as a menu aide at the old Halifax Infirmary. She will be missed by many. In sincere sympathy to Eric, Elysa, Cameron, Chris and her dear Mother. Thinking of the family at this very difficult time. I will aways treasure her memory and her lovely quilt. In sadness, Delores

Eric: my sincere and heartfelt condolences go to you and your family with the loss of Lisa.
She was such a dynamic and positive person that people naturally gravitated toward her. She was organizer and planner extraordinaire and seeing the sites, living the experiences, and having fun was the name of her game.
She continually had a project on the go whether that was sewing, crafting, cooking, quilting, scrapbooking & she always had an end goal for that activity.
And of course Lisa was an excellent cook: we all have enjoyed culinary creations at your home.
Lisa made the world a better place with her optimism, positive and fun attitude and her willingness to jump in and help out wherever she could.
I treasure the memories I have of you & your family during your stay in Calgary.
Lisa will be greatly missed - like the flowers miss the rain. Much love & my sincere sympathy to you & your family.

Dear Eric and family,
My deepest condoleances to all of you. Have been thinking about this ever since I heard this very sad news.
It seems and is so “unreal” and Eric you must and are devastated by the loss of Lisa. As a wife, mother and the person she was.
I am forever grateful to Lisa when I started my job at Windermere, and Lisa happily orientated me to my new job.
I have still many craft items Lisa made in her “spare” time, and will remember Lisa for that as well.

Elysa and family my heart is broken for you. Thinking of you all at this time.
