The family of Dr. Lih-Fu Torng is deeply saddened to announce his peaceful passing on November 18, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born on February 18, 1937, in China, Dr. Torng dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the service of others. He began his medical career in Hong Kong, where he established himself as a skilled and compassionate cardiologist. In 1972, with a vision of providing his children with a brighter future, he courageously emigrated to Canada with his family. There, he transitioned to the role of a family physician, continuing to care for others with the same devotion that defined his life.
Dr. Torng was a man of boundless intellect, creativity, and curiosity. A true autodidact, he mastered a wide range of skills and pursued numerous hobbies. He taught himself to repair cars, play the flute and piano, and even practiced the ancient art of sword-making. As an accomplished artist, he found joy and peace in Chinese watercolor painting, creating works that reflected his deep appreciation for beauty and culture.
A dedicated practitioner of Tai Chi, Dr. Torng not only mastered this ancient discipline but also shared it generously with his community by teaching free classes every Sunday in a local park. His love for learning, family, and community left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dr. Torng is survived by his beloved wife, Tein-Mei Torng, and his four children: Allan, Ay-Hwa, Shirley, and Stephen. His wisdom, kindness, and enduring spirit will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Madison Care Centre for their exceptional care and compassion.
In accordance with Dr. Torng’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to honor his life and scatter his ashes in a way that celebrates his legacy.
