It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of husband, step-father, grandfather, great grandfather, cousin, brother, and friend, Leonard Pettit. Len passed away after a lengthy illness of lung disease, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He is survived by his wife Wilma, and step children Jane (Phinder) and Michael (Liliana), as well as his grand-daughters Nadya and Natasha (Cameron)and Great Grandchildren, Mirabelle and Milo.  He is also survived by his brother Don, (Glenda and family) He will be missed by his cousins Patricia, Donna and Jack, and his many friends.

Len was born in New Westminster. He worked for 39 years at the Hammond Mill. While Len spent most of his life in Maple Ridge, that did not stop him from experiencing the world – he and Wilma travelled to Europe and North America.  Len was an avid newspaper reader, TV news watcher, and loved discussing current affairs and the news. He was in his own words “always interested in making a short story, long” and was a wonderful story teller.

His passions were photography and making power point presentations for important family gatherings. He sat on the Maple Ridge Heritage Commission and spent a lot of time archiving the documented past of Haney, Maple Ridge and the Hammond Mill including uploading heritage photos to the Facebook site – We Call it Haney.  Len was ultimately a family man where his family meant everything to him.

He will be missed by so many and has left a legacy of love and photographs for his loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, October 14th, from 2pm to 4pm, at the Legion Hall, 12101 224 St, Maple Ridge, BC.
