It is with heavy hearts that we announce Kenneth Wayne Degenstien's sudden passing on June 11, 2025, just one day shy of his 79th birthday.
Ken was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, where he developed a lifelong love for sports, particularly hockey, tennis, and golf. He enjoyed both playing and cheering from the sidelines. In his retirement years, Ken loved walking in local parks with friends and watching his grandchildren play hockey, softball and baseball.
Ken proudly served his country as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, stationed in Cyprus as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission. Throughout his life, he worked in various jobs, including at Kodak Canada, Britco Packers and, most recently, as a security guard at Global Container Terminals in Delta, BC. He also had brief stints in modelling and acting, and in his free time, he enjoyed dancing, writing poetry, and collecting coins and stamps.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Helen and John Degenstien; his brother, Dan; and his nephew, Timothy. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Danielle (Mark) and Jason (Brenna), whom he raised with his former wife, Brenda; his five grandchildren, Aaliyah, Mariah, Trey, Avery, and Liam; his siblings, Roger (Sam), Steve, Kathy (Jay), and Jim; as well as his nieces, Janna and Christie, and his nephew, Jeremy.
Ken last resided in Surrey, BC, and will be remembered as a quiet and friendly man who took great pride in his family and loved them dearly.
A private family gathering will be held to honour his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s name to The Royal Canadian Legion's Poppy Fund: www.legion.ca/donations

We had a very nice friendship for over 10 years. Text each other everyday to make sure we were okay . At our age we need that. Worried about him that day so went to his house as he never text me in the morning. So glad I did, had to phone 911 for a wellness check. Oh my I miss his texts and our talks. He was a good friend to me over the years. Miss you very much Ken
