Josephine was a beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She passed away stoically with family at her side on August 17, 2024 at the age of 92 in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Josephine was intelligent, creative, and warm-hearted. She was known for her masterful culinary skills which were experienced by many over the years through her gracious hospitality and her generous hands-on teaching. Her delicious meals brought people together, creating vivid memories of love and laughter, that will be cherished forever. Josephine was also known for her skillful seamstress abilities and her unique designs, sewing almost all of her own clothing as well as the clothing of her children when they were young. While beautiful and stylish, it was her humility and generosity that truly shined above all else. Her love and empathy for others was unwaveringly evident; she never missed an opportunity to ask with genuine care and concern how someone is doing. She resiliently put others before herself, making sacrifices as a mother, while encouraging her values of harmony and togetherness. She would always celebrate the birthdays of each of her adult children by baking a cake even in their absence, if they could not be together. Josephine had a sparkling personality, a witty sense of humour, and a contagious laugh. She loved spending time with family, the company of others, people watching, and being in the centre of the action.
Josephine was born in Aleppo, Syria. She married and raised her family in Beirut, Lebanon. Later, she moved to Canada, living in Alberta and British Columbia. Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Salim. She will be lovingly missed by her surviving children Ghada, Lia, Nicolas, Lee, and Adel, and by the rest of her extended relatives, and friends.
Until we meet again, dear Josephine.
