It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hisashi Albert “Saus” Yano.

Albert was born on April 30, 1936 in Cumberland, BC and left us peacefully surrounded by his family at Eagle Ridge Hospital on June 19, 2025.

He is survived by his wife Rae Yano (LaRue), his son Scott Yano (& Tracy Boshard), his daughter Les Yano (& Paul Lavergne), his grandson Jonah Yano, his granddaughter Samantha Yano (& Alexia), his grandson Azusa Yano (& Oddy), and his grandson Angus Yano (& Chelsea Yano).

Albert is also survived by his older sister Takako, and predeceased by his Father Keniichi Yano, his mother Matsuyo (née Inouye), and siblings Isamu Yano (and wife Nobuko, née Takeda), Toyoko (Kobayashi, and husband Kanzaburo), Hisayo (Yamada, and husband Roy), Kenji, and Misako (Yamake, and husband Joe). He is also survived by sister-in-law Kanako Yano (née Morioka). Albert was known as Uncle Saus to 24 nieces and nephews and their many spouses and children.

Albert was the greatest of guys. He took care of his immediate and extended family and was an example of what everybody should be. He took care of family first, and did everything in his power to make all of our lives secure and constant. He expressed his love in action, and we always felt he supported whatever we did. He never pushed us in any direction, choosing instead to support us in whatever direction we travelled.

He always made sure all of his children and grandchildren saw the whole country and abroad, and travelled the world with our mom, his wife, Rae, filling his bucket list and eating as much as he could in as many places as possible. He fulfilled his dreams, and ensured those of his children and grandchildren, and coached all of us and taught us a million things in his way, leaving us all ready to take on the world. He picked tonnes of Matsutake in his life, and caught and smoked thousands of fish. He hit millions of golf balls, and probably found as many, that he gave to so many people.

Albert spent untold hours investing his money. He saved tons while spending always and only on the best he could afford. Racism discouraged him from continuing at UBC, and he studied aircraft mechanics and drafting, instead. He worked for Canadian Pacific Airways and Swan Wooster/Sandwell Engineering until his retirement.

Albert’s greatest work was at home, though. He transformed the family house, with its unfinished basement, gravel driveway, and rocky unplanted yard, into a place that that we never want to give up. The deck was a piece of art that he planned for years and built himself.

Our husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, brother, in-law, friend, and colleague left a lasting legacy with love that shows us all how a life should be lived. His skills survive in all of us who knew him, and he has left a model for all of us to emulate.

There will be a celebration of life, Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 1:00pm at Golden Eagle Golf Club, 21770 Ladner Rd. Pitt Meadows, BC. We will also post this information on Facebook.

The Yano family would like to thank you for all your condolences, support and love. Dad lived a great life, and we appreciate all of you who helped create it.

I will always remember "Cousin" Albert as a quiet man, who was present in my life from my earliest years. Apparently I was a very noisy toddler at his wedding to my cousin Rae. I remember him at our many family reunions, and at family gatherings at our home and his. He was always very kind, gracious, and refined.
