Gwenn Elizabeth Cutler (nee Bancroft)
June 10, 1949 – July 10, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gwenn Elizabeth Cutler on July 10, 2026, at the age of 77. Gwenn was enjoying a lovely evening walk along the Capilano River with her dear friend when she suddenly passed away from a cardiac arrest.
Born on June 10, 1949, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Gwenn lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and deep devotion to her family and friends. Gwenn held many meaningful positions in her career; her keen intelligence and caring nature was best exemplified by her tenure as Executive Director of the Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre, as a member of the BC Task Force on Family Violence, and as a director of the BC Parole Board.
Gwenn spent many happy years in Kamloops, living on the golf course with her beloved husband, Gary Cutler and her little dog Sami. Gwenn and Gary had a wonderful circle of friends. Gary passed in 2020 and Gwenn remained in Kamloops until December 2024, when she returned to the Lower Mainland to make her home in West Vancouver, where she enjoyed being closer to family.
Gwenn will be remembered for her gentle nature, caring heart, and the warmth she brought to those around her. Her sense of humor and quick wit was enjoyed by all. Gwenn’s laugh was infectious, and her profound wisdom and loving heart made her a dear friend who left a positive impact on many lives. Gwenn loved to golf, sew, knit and quilt, and she played a mean game of Scrabble. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
Gwenn is lovingly remembered by her brother, Ted Bancroft, and her sisters, Mary Glavind and Anne Kaario. She will be greatly missed by her extended family, friends, and all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held at St Andrew's United Church, 1044 St George's Avenue, North Vancouver, on Saturday October 10, 2026 beginning at 2pm. It will be live streamed for Gwenn's many friends and relatives who live elsewhere or are not able to attend. The family hopes you can come to the service and reception following.
This is Thanksgiving weekend, appropriate for Gwenn's always-grateful approach to life.

I first met Gwenn during my second year in Amica. I was on the committee that met new residents. I was amazed that such an attactive bright intellent women had moved into my facility. I began evening walks with Gwenn and I found out what a wonderful person she was. She spoke highly of her family particularly her mother and father. She told me stories about her mother hanging out washing and making friends with a crow and her father taking a second job driving a cab. She always had support she needed from her brother and sisters. She told how much she enjoyed her life with husband her friends and her family her only regret in her life was she did not have children. I was in love with Gwenn and I treasue every moment I had with her. I miss her every day.

Ah, Gwenn, our treasured sister-in-law. We miss so much about you: that sparkling, downright wicked, sense of humour, the brilliant smile, your warmth and kindness. We so often think of our visits with you and Gary, here, in Kamloops, and on Salt Spring Island (where Dee once confused you with a nurse because you were wearing white). You are taking a bit of the light and fun out of our world as you leave it.
We hope you are with Gary again, casting a line or making you way down a fairway.

I met Gwenn in 2003 in Rivershore. She was one of the kindest,most intelligent,talented people I’ve ever known. Her sense of humour could make a tough day brighter. She made a difference and will be missed.

I have so many great memories of Gwenn. We met at a Logger’s Convention and became friends and neighbours. We lived in the same neighbourhood on Furrer Rd. and at the Rivershore Golf Course . Gwenn and I shared a lot of fun experiences together. We worked on the Ladies Committee for the Logger’s convention. We bowled, golfed, went for walks in the neighbourhood had many canasta games. Gwenn and Gary were part of our life for a very long time. Rest in peace, my friend.

Gwenn was a wonderful person and is and will be missed. She meant a lot to many people who she helped in her many roles. She'll is missed for sure in our mahjong group where her sense of humour kept us all laughing. She and I had a fondly remembered fun road trip to California during which we stayed on the Queen Mary (now a hotel) in Long Beach - la ti da! she was such fun.

This is a beautiful picture of Gwenn and it's how I will always remember her. She had a bright smile and the ability to make you feel welcome and valued in her presence. We spent a lot of time laughing when we first started golfing and she always had a positive way of looking at life and its challenges. I have several pieces of her quilting works including a large sized coffee table centerpiece, thanking me for accommodation at the two lady golf event in 2008. About a dozen of us stayed in Sorrento and attended golf lessons in Salmon Arm. She had a strong ability to liven things up ! Rest in peace, dear Gwenn🥰

Gwenn and I were good friends for many years. I always enjoyed my time spent with her. She was so easy to talk to, authentic, fun, talented, and we always laughed a lot when we were together. I still use a quilted trivet that she gave me at Thanksgiving many years ago.I have missed our phone chats and visits. She moved to Vancouver and I moved to Sidney on the Island. I treasure my memories of Gwenn. A beautiful person who lit up a room with her joyful spirit.

Gwenn was a wonderful friend & co-worker. She served Kamloops & the Province in many capacities including the Kamloops Sexual Assault Centre, the Provincial Parole Board, Kiwanis House, and many community boards, committees and initiatives.
She alway brought a gentle sense of humour; insight into issues; and always a warm, caring presence into both personal and professional settings.
Gwenn was a person who made a difference.
