Gordon Ernest Cuthbert passed away peacefully at St. John Hospice in Vancouver, BC.

Gord is survived by Linda, his wife, best friend, soulmate, and canoe partner. Cherished stepdad to Melanie Antweiler (Werner), and beloved grandfather to Jakob and Simon. He will be remembered with love by his sister Judy Baëta (Basil), sisters-in-law Marie (Max) and Amanda, brother-in-law Arthur (Velma), five nephews, two nieces, two great nieces and two great nephews. Predeceased by parents Howard and Gena (née Rose) Cuthbert.

Born in Montreal, Gord was a talented athlete, as a baseball pitcher, football player, and track and field star. At McGill University, he studied Chemical Engineering, and graduated with distinction. Having been hired by INCO, Gord moved to Sudbury, Ontario, where he discovered canoeing and cross-country skiing, passions that he shared with Linda when they met. Gord and Linda married in 1989, creating a loving home filled with happiness. Together, they paddled many rivers and wilderness areas across Ontario, and as far away as Canada’s northern territories and the Rio Grande straddling Mexico and Texas.

Gord retired after working for INCO for thirty years. He and Linda moved to Ennismore (near Peterborough) to be near family in Lindsay, and also used it as a base for more travels and adventures. In 2012, they moved to Vancouver, BC, to be near Melanie and her family. They traded in their canoes and discovered ocean cruising, sailing between four continents.

Gord was a kind, gentle soul. Soft-spoken and thoughtful with his words, anything he had to say was well worth listening to. While canoeing, he was known to rescue dragonflies who had fallen into the water, and in Sudbury he once stopped four lanes of traffic to help a snapping turtle cross a busy street. Gord treated his family and friends with equal care and concern, and he walked gently on this earth. He showed his love through his actions.

Private cremation has taken place. If you are so inclined, donations to the Parkinson Canada foundation would be welcomed with gratitude.

Gord has now completed his last portage.

Richard and I have so many fond memories of Gord. He was always a joy to spend time with, and listen to all of his amazing adventures. On our first camping trip to Achray, Richard and I were amazed at how fast Gord and Linda paddled! We could barely keep up with them!! We were fortunate to end up with Gord’s red canoe, when they moved out West, and we will continue to paddle it with love, while remembering all the great adventures that it has been on, with Gord and Linda .
Paddle on Gord❣️ Gone but never forgotten ❤️

Dad (Rob) and I send our love to Linda, Melanie and the kids. Gord was really a gentle soul. Dad was telling me about the amazing garage he had a tour of when we all lived in Sudbury.
