It is with great sadness that the family of Gloria Anne Ratch (Schmidt) announce her passing on December 11, 2022, in Maple Ridge, BC at the age of 60 years.

Gloria was predeceased by her mother Reine Ortmann (Mauvieux) in 1990 and fathers Joseph Schmidt in 1962 and Jacob Ortmann in 2002 as well as her brother-in-law Frank Honig in 2020.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 28 years, Greg Ratch as well as sisters Alice Neufeld and her family, Jenna Wenet (Cole), Denae and Nolan Neufeld;  Adeline Honig and her family,  Alan, Gary (Edna), Blaine and Craig Honig; and Fay Regush as well as in-laws Richard and Marilyn Ratch, Lisa Smith (Jeff) and her family Taylor Marcum (Michael) and Mason Smith as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Gloria was born on January 13, 1962, in Weyburn and attended schools in Weyburn, Regina and Saskatoon. She was a dedicated and loving wife, sister, aunt cousin, niece, godmother and friend.

She worked with vulnerable youth for a brief time while living in Regina.

In 1990 she graduated from the Psychiatric Nursing Program. She also completed a certificate for a Computer Support and Administration Program and was recently taking classes to re-enter the Nursing Profession.  Gloria enjoyed helping others and pursued careers doing just that.

In 1994, Gloria married Greg and they lived in Regina until 2002. In 2003, they moved to Gibsons, BC where Greg took a job as a Pharmacist managing a store. In 2012, they moved to Maple Ridge, BC where they currently resided.

For anyone who knew Gloria, she was one-of-a-kind.  She was a bright light in a dark room, with a big heart and an innate ability to make others feel special. Gloria loved to be outside in nature and would look forward to camping trips to their favourite spots.  She loved animals and was very fond of dogs, especially her special dogs Star and Toto that were always by her side.  She enjoyed reading, watching movies and connecting with loved ones. She loved to laugh and would tell jokes, often spicing them up with her own versions of how they should go.

A Memorial was held on January 14, 2023, in Mission, BC.

A Public Memorial will also be held in Weyburn on Saturday, June 10 at 1 pm at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (314- 3rd St. NE) with lunch to follow at McKenna Hall.
