Doreen Ellen Stevens (Channell), of Maple Ridge, BC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 30, 2026, at the age of 96.  Born on April 8, 1930 in Southall, England, she was the daughter of Hubert and Gertrude Channell. She grew up in Southall and moved to Canada in her mid-twenties with her beloved husband, John (Jack) Ellis Stevens. Together they raised two sons: Kelly John Stevens, and Perry James Stevens.

Doreen was intelligent and inquisitive, generous and considerate; and, she was always delighted to hear about new developments in the lives of her family and friends. She loved to entertain and, even during casual visits, she would insist on bringing out snacks and personally serving drinks to ensure people around her were comfortable.  She had a great sense of humour and a wonderful laugh, and she will be missed greatly.

She is survived by: her sons Kelly Stevens (Terry), and Perry Stevens (Darcee); her grandchildren Andrew, Cory, Theresa, Jennifer, Owen, and Ben; her great-grandchildren Malakai, Claire, Cooper, and Hudson; and her brother Peter Channell, in England, as well as the many friends and neighbors who cared about her.

A service will be held on September 19, 2026, at 2:00 pm at St. Oswald’s Anglican Church, located at 9566 190 St, Surrey, BC. Reception to follow.

Andrew: My grandma meant a lot to me, she was a big part of some of my earliest memories. I learned a lot about what it means to be a family from her, and she will be missed. Love you, Nan.
Cory: I love you, Nana, and I hope that you're resting peacefully. I have many great memories of our time together that I’ll carry gratefully into the future. I’m so lucky to have had someone so special in my life that it makes saying goodbye this hard.
Theresa: My Nan was truly one of a kind. She lived the most incredible life, and I will miss hearing all the stories she shared with us. I’m grateful for all the memories we made together over the years, and I feel so lucky to have had her as my Nan. Some of my favourite childhood memories are sitting on the couch reading I Spy books with her, and I’ll always remember the times she beat me at crib. I will treasure these memories and carry them with me always.
Jennifer: Nan, you will never be gone to me. You are here in every cup of tea that I drink, in every happy, pastel colour I wear, and in every birthday card I write. You will always be one of my favourite people, and I am so privileged to have been loved by someone like you – openly and endlessly. You may no longer be with us, but you will never be gone.
Owen: Nan was the best and she’ll always be in my heart.
Ben: Although I wasn’t very close with my Nan, I truly cherished the deviled eggs she made me when I was younger whenever I came over. She knew they were my favourite and they will be my favourite memory of her.
