It is with heavy hearts we say our last farewell to Donald Gordon Brunton, who passed away on January 20th at the age of 73, after a battle with cancer.  He was surrounded by family and friends and a lifetime of memories.

Over the years he shared countless adventures, travels and experiences with his many friends all across Canada and beyond. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey, fishing and visiting friends from Petawawa, Sioux Lookout, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

Donald was a kind-hearted son, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.

He was always ready to offer his opinions and his sharp wit kept everyone on their toes. As Don would say, “Hol-ey!”

He had a natural knack of how things worked and when technology stumped the average person Donald came to the rescue.

Donald enjoyed a rewarding career on the railroad for many years before retiring to an active social life participating in his favourite things. These included golfing, fishing, going for wings or sushi and enjoying his dinners out with friends who became like family. He was never without a dinner invitation. Donald also took an interest in cooking and amazed his friends with his culinary prowess.

In his later years, Donald also enjoyed making personalized greeting cards for friends and family and to receive one was an honour. He kept his mind sharp daily by championing the New York Times Crossword and joining in a healthy rivalry with his friends over Wordle.

Donald leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories that will be carried in the hearts of all of us he leaves behind.

Donald,

You’ll always be close to us

You’ll be there in our mind

You’ll never be forgotten

Or ever left behind

You’ll show up in our stories

In our thoughts and in our smiles

And you’ll walk along beside us

As you guide us down life’s miles

Remembering many good times with Donny, especially during his time in Sioux. We had similar interests …playing cards/gambling (poker, crib & gin rummy) , snooker and golf locally and through the region. Golf also took us to Falcon Lake and I joined him at his home Club of St Boniface after he had relocated. ‘Turbo’ won our Club Championship one year and never let me forget it!
And of course we worked together on occasion, as CN employees.
I hadn’t seen Donny in many years but he would come to mind from time to time, so I am saddened by his passing…rest in peace buddy🥲

Condolences to Donnie’s family and friends. Last time I saw you we were playing golf in Surrey BC and that was many years ago. I always enjoyed working with you and we played a lot of hockey together. RIP turbo

So sorry to hear Haven’t seen him for years. Donnie came to Sioux Lookout and lived with us for a short time. Once he got his job on the railroad and his own place he was on his own We saw him often til he moved to B.C. Then we just lost touch. I always think of him smiling and laughing, a bit of a jokester. I’m glad he found happiness in BC.

Condolences to all of Don’s family and friends. I also met him in Sioux Lookout. I am grateful that he chose me as a friend for life. I too was the beneficiary of his cards and buttons. We were always guaranteed for a good laugh in his company. I’ll always love and miss you DB❤️

Our condolences to Don’s family. He was a good friend over the years. We had the same roots from the town of Sioux Lookout but didn’t meet until our move to BC. He treasured his friendships and always kept in touch. He will not be forgotten.
