It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Deric Scott. Deric passed away peacefully on December 2nd, just before his 64th birthday. He is survived by his loving wife, Kris; his stepdaughter, Stephanie; his sisters, Elana and Tracey; and his brother, Dennis. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Many in Maple Ridge knew Deric as "Otis," a nickname that suited his memorable and strong personality. Otis was known for his straightforwardness and willingness to speak his mind, yet beneath that exterior was a heart of gold. Deric's diverse work life included time at Hammond Mill, driving a dump truck, and ultimately retiring as a deckhand engineer for Fraser River Pile and Dredge. Among his proudest achievements was his contribution to the construction of the Golden Ears Bridge. He was known as a dedicated and reliable worker. He rarely missed a day of work. Deric was a loving provider, always ensuring his family was taken care of.
Deric made the courageous decision to embrace sobriety in 2019, and shortly after faced the challenges of Dementia. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. In celebration of Deric's life, please raise a Budweiser. Or a Coca-Cola in his memory, as this was his favorite drink in later years. Forever 29, Otis, forever in our hearts. Otis has left the building.”

My sincere condolences, Kris and Stephanie. I think Derek is doing well up there now and has found peace. It was a wonderful time with Derek and you all in 2008, and I'm grateful to have known you. I would have loved to see Derek one more time, but it wasn't meant to be. Warmest regards from Germany from his best friend, Manrico, and I wish you both a long life.
