It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Carolyn Margaret Romanow (née Woods) on October 25, 2025, in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, after a long and courageous battle with illness. Carolyn was surrounded by the love of her family in her final days.

Born July 22, 1945, in Prince Rupert, B.C., to James and Audrey Woods, Carolyn’s life was marked by compassion, resilience, fierce resistance, and a steadfast belief in the dignity of every person. Carolyn was the oldest sister to nine siblings, Gary Woods (Marie) Brian Woods (Birdie) Wendy Halpen (Ron), Julie Woods, Leonard Woods, Nancy Davie (John), Monica Woods, Adrien Woods and Derek Woods.

Carolyn was the proud and devoted mother of five sons who survive her: Troy (Pamela), Todd (Marilyn), Travis (Magdalena), Trevor (Rebecca), and Trent (Kaitlin,). She was also a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her endless pride and joy.

Throughout her life, Carolyn dedicated herself to the service of others. A tireless poverty activist and advocate for social justice, she championed the needs of those who could not always help themselves, individuals and families facing addiction, illness, or hardship. Her work with the Action Committee of People with Disabilities in Victoria was recognized in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in 2004, where she was commended for her efforts to improve the lives of those navigating complex health and social systems, including those affected by hepatitis C.

Carolyn’s advocacy was rooted in empathy, fairness, and courage. She held a profound respect and deep affinity for Indigenous peoples, supporting their struggles for reconciliation, recognition, and equality with sincerity and conviction.

Beyond her advocacy, Carolyn will be remembered for her sharp wit, boundless compassion, and unwavering moral compass. She believed that one person could make a difference, and she proved it, time and time again, through quiet acts of kindness and fierce dedication to justice.

Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate her life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to organizations supporting poverty reduction, Indigenous reconciliation, causes close to Carolyn’s heart.
