Belva Anne Starrett (nee Louden) was born in Port Alberni, BC Sept 29, 1937 and passed away on May 20, 2023 due to complications from diabetes.  Belva grew up in New Westminster, BC, surrounded by her loving parents (Julia and Bill Louden), grandparents (Frank & Bessie Smith) and Aunt & Uncle (Belva & Fred Hume).  She met the love of her life during her high school days while ice skating – Sheldon Starrett. Belva and Sheldon were married in New Westminster on Oct 11, 1957.

Sheldon entered the Canadian Air Force to become a pilot and the newlywed couple lived near several Air Force bases across the country. During this time, Belva and Sheldon welcomed four children into their lives…Belva, Mel, Keith & Sandra.  In 1966, Sheldon left the Air Force when he joined Canadian Pacific Airlines as a commercial airline pilot.  The family settled in Tsawwassen, BC.

Belva encountered an absolute shock to her life, when her dearly loved husband Sheldon died suddenly in 1971.  She was alone at the age of 34 to raise 4 children on her own.  Luckily, her parents and aunt were there to help in whatever way they could.

Belva then worked at Canadian Airlines in the accounting department until she retired at the age of 55.  From there Belva enjoyed her home and garden in beautiful sunny Tsawwassen until her time at Hilton Villa in Surrey, BC.  While at Hilton Villa, Belva was known for her love of the garden. While there she inspired the staff to help her maintain the summer garden for all to enjoy. The family extends thanks to all the staff at Hilton that made her time at Hilton the best it could be and cared for her with kindness.

Belva is survived by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren…

Belva lived next door to our family in Tsawwassen for years! Even after we had moved, we kept in touch. As an adult, I would run into her at Thrifty Foods and would enjoy our chats. After I left Tsawwassen and got married, it was especially special to introduce her to my son. We lost touch as I stopped coming to out as much, but she will forever hold a special place in my heart. I am so sorry to hear of her passing and I send my love to her kids, grand kids and great grandkids. I hope she’s resting in peace with her husband by her side.
