It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arthur Leo Glynn, who left his body on December 30, 2024.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, and community member who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born December 1, 1931 in Trail BC, A. Leo Glynn lived a life full of love, laughter, and carefully planned adventures. He loved golf and curling, and was a member of the Marpole Curling Club for many years, worked at the CIBC from 17 until retirement at 55, then volunteered doing Bingo accounting for St. Mary's Church in Vancouver for another 25 years after he “retired”. He was also known as part of the flower duo, helping his wife Margaret pick up donated flowers from Kirby’s wholesaler and bring them to various care homes and hospitals in East Vancouver and Burnaby.
He loved baseball, and was one of the Cardinals’ biggest fans, never once failing in his devotion to his favorite team. Even in his nineties, he could be found sporting a red Cardinals’ baseball cap. When his memory started to fail, he could still fire off all the names and stats of the players who brought home the World Series when he was 10.
Leo was a calculated risk taker. He was known for his ability to predict disaster, and to plan for all eventualities. Pessimistic perhaps, but always prepared, and consequently, ready for any crisis big or small.
In any time of need, Leo was the first person to show up. He was slow to offer advice, but when asked, the advice would be well measured and worth taking.
He always looked out for others and had your back. He was a kind person who supported the people around him, and dedicated his time for others. He was known for his keen attention to detail and careful planning. He had the Irish gift for satire, a great wit, and a finely honed sense of humour.
A man with heart, he was always one to roll up his sleeves and help as needed, even if it wasn’t his area of expertise. Leo was also a natural storyteller, he was talented at making up bedtime stories for his children and, later, grandchildren.
A. Leo Glynn is survived by daughters Susan Marino and Sandra Dykstra, sons in law Ralph and Mark, and grandchildren David, Kevin, and Jeffrey. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Margaret Glynn, brother Jack Glynn, and sister May Fabbi.
A celebration of Arthur Leo Glynn's life will be held on January 31 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Parish in Vancouver. We invite all who knew him to join us in remembering and honoring his remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you write a brief note with a memory of a time you shared, a gratitude, or a prayer.
