However, there are some restrictions and other options you might want to consider. Here are the other charges that may apply to you: Consumer Protection Fee 48.00 A mandatory administration fee charged by Consumer Protection for each death registered in the Province of British Columbia. This fee will be added to the above package. BC Funeral Association Fee 5.50 The BC Funeral Association sets professional standards, offers continuing education, lobbies the provincial government, and represents member funeral service providers. This fee covers the service they provide to the funeral profession in BC. This fee will be added to the above package. Death Certificates 27.00 An official document issued by the Department of Vital Statistics typically required as proof of death by banks, government agencies, insurance companies, etc. (If you aren't sure how many to order, start with one. We can always provide you with more later). Cadence - Executor Assistant and Grief Support 175.00 An on-line tool providing a customized plan to settle your loved one's estate. Includes notification of government agencies, closing bank accounts, claiming benefits, protection against identity theft, and much more. Cadence also includes unlimited grief support for your entire family. On-line Tribute 35.00 For far less than a newspaper obituary, publish a meaningful tribute on our website. Our tributes include a colour photo and unlimited text. Furthermore, they are never deleted and others can interact with the tribute by posting photos, stories, and messages of condolence. Special Document Requests 25.00 When travelling with cremated remains by air or upon entry to a foreign country, you may be asked for special documents from the funeral home regarding the death, cremation and urn. This may include an urn contents letter, Funeral Director Statement of Death, additional original copies of the cremation certificate, or other specialty documents. Before booking travel to a foreign country other than the United States, you should check with the foreign consulate about any such documents they may require for importing cremated remains (Note: There are no special requirements for travelling to the US with cremated remains). In-Person Arrangements 245.00 The majority of our arrangements are completed by phone. Clothes must be brought to the crematorium in Maple Ridge. Sheltering 15.00/day Our basic package includes sheltering of the deceased for up to 7 days. This fee reflects the ongoing facilities and staffing costs for extended periods of sheltering. Fingerprint Scans & Locks of Hair 25.00 A digital scan of your loved one's fingerprint will be uploaded to www.eternitystouch.com. From this website you can order jewelry engraved with the fingerprint and/or with a few grains of your loved one's cremated remains inside. This fee also includes collecting locks of hair, if desired. Note: For a high resolution digital copy of the fingerprint scan, add $90.00. Parting Stone Solidified Remains 2,495.00 Parting Stone is an alternative to conventional ash. The cremated remains are transformed into a collection of approximately 60 smooth stones. Like regular stones, solidified remains are similar to ceramic and will not dissolve in water. The stones are perfect for keeping in your pocket, putting on display in your home, or placing in your garden. Special Handling of Cremated Remains 25.00 An additional fee for splitting cremated remains into multiple portions and/or filling urns or jewelry supplied by others. DNA Sampling 498.00 Receive a purified sample of your loved one's DNA for future testing. See www.securigene.com/video for more details. Pacemaker Removal 75.00 Surgical removal of a pacemaker, if applicable, prior to cremation. Embalming Regular 595.00 After Autopsy 795.00 Chemical treatment of the deceased to sanitize, slow down the break down of the body, and restore a life-like appearance. Recommended, but not legally required, for visitations. Visitation/Viewing 450.00 A few (up to 20) friends and family members may visit with the deceased for 30 minutes. Includes washing, dressing, and light cosmetics (if needed) but not embalming. Add $100 for plus-sized individuals. Cremation of Plus-size Decedents 395.00 An additional fee to cover the cost of cremation for those who are over 250 lbs. An oversize cremation tray will be required. See Casket selection page for pricing. Cremation of Bariatric Decedents 525.00 An additional fee to cover the cost of cremation for those who are over 400 lbs. Notify Date and Time of Cremation 395.00 We will inform you of the date and time of cremation so you can be thinking of your loved one while the cremation is taking place. Expedited Cremation 395.00 The cremation will take place within 4 business days of when we receive the decedent into our care and we have been granted permission from Vital Statistics to proceed with cremation, whichever occurs last. Witness Cremation Start 595.00 Up to 10 friends and family members can be present for your loved one's final journey as they are placed in the cremation chamber. If desired, a family member can start the cremation process. Scattering on Land 125.00 Your loved one’s cremated remains will be scattered for you at a local park or other suitable location. Scattering will take place at a time of our choosing during the Spring or Summer months. Shipping Cremated Remains within the BC Lower Mainland (Squamish to Hope) No Charge If you live within our service area, your loved one's cremated remains and death certificate(s) will be couriered to you via Express Post. Personal Delivery of Cremated Remains 125.00 One of our staff will deliver your loved one's cremated remains to your home or office. Deliveries scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10 AM to 2 PM, based on availability. Service area includes West Vancouver to Abbotsford only. Pick-up Cremated Remains or Death Certificates from our Maple Ridge or South Surrey office 75.00 The preferred method for delivery is by Express Post (see above) but we understand this does not always work for everyone. We are located in Maple Ridge and serve the entire Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley from Horseshoe Bay to Hope. What does it cost? Please refer to our Pricing page for a detailed outline of all our services and fees. Where do you transfer the deceased to? Your loved one will be sheltered in Maple Ridge. Once the paperwork is processed and completed, and 48 hours have passed, we will schedule them for cremation. How long does it take? Legally the cremation can only take place 48 hours after the time of death and all authorization documents are completed. There can be occasional delays such as getting the required release from hospitals or medical certificates from the doctor or coroner. However, typically, the cremation will take place within 7 - 10 days. We will contact you should a delay occur. Can we arrange a viewing, visitation or to witness the start of the cremation? Definitely. We can plan for the witness cremation in our viewing suite at the crematorium. There are, however, additional costs for these services which you can see in our Pricing list. What if I want to bury the ashes? Every local cemetery has the option to bury ashes and we would be happy to refer you to any one of the several municipal or private cemeteries in the area. What are the restrictions on scattering ashes? You may scatter the ashes anywhere you like as there are no federal or provincial regulations that prohibit the scattering of cremated remains, even in places such as federal or provincial parks. The only restriction is you will need permission to scatter on private property from the land owner. You can always scatter the ashes on your property, just remember that if ownership changes, you most likely would not have access to it which may cause emotional difficulty or pain for those who considered that land a place of pilgrimage. These are very important decisions to carefully consider while some like the idea of scattering on land or water, these are irreversible decisions. Some people do come to regret that decision and wished they had a permanent memorial site. Memorial gardens at a cemetery is something to consider. In most cases, they are dedicated for this purpose. They could also authorize a plaque or marker be placed in honor of your loved one which would allow you to have a permanent memorial space. What if we don’t want the ashes back? That’s no problem. Every year, we do land scattering of ashes. You can take a look at our Pricing page for further information about this service. What if I want you to ship the ashes to another family member? We can definitely do that, however, the shipping and handling charges are extra. You are also able to have us divide the ashes into smaller keepsake urns so multiple people in the family can keep a part of their loved one. If this is something you are interested it, you can let us know and we can discuss it further. What if I would like to have a funeral service? This is not a service we offer. Typically, our families plan a memorial service on their own after cremation has occurred. What if I want to publish an obituary? You can’t assume that your family will know what you would have wanted or will remember when the time comes. Do they know if you want your ashes spread or kept close by? If you want your ashes scattered, where? Do you want a celebration of life at home or a restaurant? Family only or close friends too? 3. Get the details right. With only a few days between death and cremation, there is a big chance someone will make hasty decisions that might not be necessary, but it is less likely to happen if you’ve planned all the details ahead of time. 4. Work with people you respect. When you pre-plan, you have the chance to get to know the funeral home that will be taking care of you after death. You can build trust with the funeral director and choose based on who you believe will do the best job caring for your family and making sure your last wishes are granted. 5. Eliminate financial burden on your family. When you pre-plan, you have the option to pay for everything ahead of time which takes so much pressure and stress off your family in a time they need it. Your family is facing enough due to your death, unexpected costs don’t have to be one of those things. 6. Save money. Once you prepay for your arrangements, the price is locked in so even if the prices go up; the costs are covered. 7. Your funds are protected. Your funds are kept safe in a trust administered by a bank or insurance company so the funeral home cannot access that money for any other purpose than to pay for your arrangements. 8. It’s transferrable. If you move, your funds can be transferred to whichever funeral home you choose. 9. It's Easy.
